FIND YOUR MIDWIFE
Congratulations on your pregnancy!
At Pohlen Birth Centre, we’re here to guide you through every step of this incredible journey.
Now that you’ve received the wonderful news, your next steps are all about getting the right support, preparing for the months ahead, and making informed choices that feel right for you.
CONFIRM YOUR PREGNANCY
If you have not already, take a home pregnancy test. Pohlen Maternity can provide you with a pregnancy test. You can also visit your doctor to confirm the pregnancy with a blood test.
In New Zealand, this is usually a midwife, but it can also be an obstetrician or a GP. Your LMC will be your primary caregiver during your pregnancy, birth, and up to six weeks postpartum.
The following midwives have clinics at Pohlen Maternity:
Lalage Sales: Ph 021 026 46648
Janine Aarsen: Ph 027 876 2609
Nicki Walford: Ph 021 378 396
Chris McMillan: Ph 027 256 0846
Please contact one of these midwives who work closely together and can arrange bookings and antenatal appointments at Pohlen Maternity.
There are many other midwives in our area who have access to our comfortable facility. Please visit the Find Your Midwife website to find out who covers our area.
If you are not from Matamata or your midwife doesn't have access and would like to stay at Pohlen Maternity, phone and chat to us. We can assist in finding you an LMC to look after you during your postnatal stay. We encourage midwives to apply for access, a free, simple and quick process.
ANTENATAL CARE
First Visit: Your LMC will confirm your pregnancy, estimate your due date, and discuss your options for care. They will also order initial tests, like blood tests and ultrasounds.
Regular Checkups: Schedule regular antenatal visits to monitor your health and your baby's development.
Plan for Your Care: Discuss your birth plan with your LMC, including where you want to give birth (birthing centre, home, or hospital,).
